Too classy for an on-the-road experience? Fuck you. Many people can easily afford a lavish tour around the globe, but it wouldn’t make up for an experience of a lifetime. If you really desire to live every single bit of the trip, do it in the old school manner. Do it how it was done before the advent of digitisation. Leave that Kindle behind, take a real paperback instead. Choose a notepad and pen against your laptop. Carry a real map, or note down your navigation route. Doing this will help you feel the raw experience, the one which those travel agencies will never be able to deliver. Also do not try to plan the trip beforehand, just pick one direction and go where the wind blows.
